Waste intended for geological disposal has to be characterized to provide sufficient information to ensure that the waste packages received for disposal company with the waste acceptance criteria or, if not, that corrective measures are taken by the generator of the waste or the operator of the disposal facility [1]. The decision on acceptance of waste packages is based mainly on records, preconditioning tests and control of the manufacturing and conditioning processes. Owing to the risk of potentially high doses from waste packages, "post-conditioning testing and the need for corrective measures have to be limited as far as practicable" [1].
