6.28. 처분시설 설계는 운영 및 폐쇄 후 안전성 평가에서 설계 요건의 영향을 적절히 검토될 수 있도록 충분히 상세하고 정확해야 한다. 처분시설 설계는 처분시설의 개발 단계에 따라 점차 진화함에 따라, 설계변경의 효과가 규제기준에 부합하는지를 검토하기 위해 안전성 평가가 갱신된다.
