The ICRP has elaborated the application of the System of Radiological Protection to the disposal of solid radioactive waste in its Publications 77 and 81 [5, 6], which it reconfirmed in Publication 103 [7]. This provides a starting point for the safety considerations discussed here in relation to disposal facilities. Environmental concerns and other non-radiological concerns are considered at the end of Section 2.
